Fae Bay

Welcome to Fae Bay, where a small group of brave young fairies embark upon a magical quest to save their tropical island.  Along the way, they meet new friends, find ancient treasures and battle powerful enemies.  Half RPG and half activity book, Fae Bay is an extensive adventure for elementary schoolers, split into episodes targeting an hour and a half.  Packed full of craft projects, little games, and opportunities to be creative and courageous, Fae Bay is an excellent introduction to the joy of role-playing games.

This project came about largely due to the pandemic.  My nieces, aged 5 and 7 at the time, were stuck at home and looking for something to do that did not involve more screen time.  We gave Monster Slayers a try, but it did not go over so well, on account of there being all together too much murdering of fairy swarms and baby dragons.  So, like any good uncle who has a tendency to take things way too far, instead of chucking the whole RPG idea out the window, I created a six-month-long grand epic for them to enjoy.  They liked it enough that I decided to share it here on Itch.io, so if you are a parent in the mood for something new to do with your kids, look no further.  A standard set of D&D dice will be needed to play, plus, at varying times, some school or art supplies, a deck of cards or some candy.

There are many wonderful projects on Itch.io and I have noticed a lot of them have neat character creation systems, a few hooks, and maybe a short adventure.  They are beautifully designed with wonderful artwork.  That is not what you are getting from me (as you can probably tell from my front cover, I am not much of an artist.)  What Fae Bay does have is a lot of content.  The PDF is over 300 pages, split into 23 episodes.  It took us months to finish the whole story.

If this sounds like something your children might enjoy, I encourage you to give the free demo a whirl.  It will run you through a short and very manageable character creation and play through the first adventure which is an easy initiation into the world and the system, without needing to bury anyone, including yourself, in the world-building.
